What’s next? Think UV plus protection, smarter fabrics and enhanced sustainability
After over a decade of dominating sales charts, can activewear still command a top spot in the competitive apparel industry?
To maintain momentum – and grow the category further – mills, manufacturers, and brands are doubling down on innovation. The goal isn’t just to create something new, but to deliver added value through smarter materials, more sustainable production, and enhanced functionality.
What’s emerging is a new generation of activewear that does more than support workouts. These performance-driven fabrics and technologies are crossing into ready-to-wear, influencing everything from travel apparel to street fashion.

The pace of innovation is unrelenting. “As soon as something new comes out, it’s not enough. You have to move on to the next development,” says Ms. Smith. Brands, ingredient suppliers, and retailers alike are under pressure to constantly evolve and deliver cleaner, more sustainable solutions.
