By solving one fundamental problem for its customers, Coppel has created a wildly successful retail business.
Most would think that a department store that sells a vast range of products – from fashion to furniture, as well as electronics, home appliances and sporting goods – and sells it all on credit to lower income consumers, would not be a great business model.
However, they would be wrong. Because this is exactly the business model that is the foundation of Coppel’s success.
Based in Sinaloa, Mexico, Coppel is an 83 year-old, family owned department store which now operates more than 1,800 stores in Mexico, 27 stores in Argentina, and a growing online business.
What differentiates Coppel from just about any other retail business is that everything can be sold on credit. And just about anyone can get credit.
