LOGISTICS
Increases in ocean rates are expected in the coming weeks heading into Chinese New Year, according to Freightos.
Thus far Omicron has not worsened already strained logistics. However, heighted travel restrictions could take a bite out of air cargo capacity and push rates higher.
A decrease in U.S. imports from Asia in November is likely to be a result of a record number of containers stuck in transit rather than a drop in demand, according to JOC.
Warehouse congestion is seen as an ongoing concern as retailers look to have more inventory on hand, rather than on the ocean.
