India has always had the fundamental criteria that attracts apparel sourcing. It has a huge population, low wages, domestic cotton, a strong textile sector for yarns and fabrics, and a legacy in apparel manufacturing.
It also has something that many other major sourcing nations lack: the ability to do creative products with a unique signature that can’t be found anywhere else.
Yet until recently, most brands marginalized sourcing in India. Even as brands looked to diversify their sourcing into more countries, few prioritized India.
Now that’s starting to change.
