The immunity card that everyone (including luxury brands themselves) thought they had has proven to be more of a false sense of security.  We’re seeing this as economic headwinds are taking a toll on most luxury brands – in all markets.  

We also never thought we’d see so many leading sports brands underperforming – and for not just one or two quarters, but for over a year.  Yet that’s the challenge that Nike, Under Armour, Columbia and few others are facing.  Even Lululemon is worried, and warned of a possible slowdown in their last earnings report.

The current winners (in sports and also in luxury) are the smaller, more focused, niche brands.
