The Gap, Inc. (USA) plans to have 800 of its stores open by the end of the month, including those under its Gap, Old Navy, Athleta, Banana Republic, Janie and Jack, and Intermix brands.
This represents about one third of the retailer’s total U.S. stores.
Store openings will begin in Texas later this week and then roll out across the nation.
Gap CEO Sonia Syngal said that one of the biggest challenges in reopening was the lack of uniformity amongst state laws regarding retail safety measures.
With no common nationwide regulations, retailers will need to stay up to date on the requirements of each individual state.

Macy’s: 68 stores in May. 775 stores nationwide will reopen by mid-June.
Apple: Begin opening some stores this month.
Dillards: Opening this weekend in Texas.
