A key part of meeting higher sustainability standards is developing apparel that is more durable. The longer a garment lasts, the less frequently it needs to be replaced. WRAP research has shown that increasing the active life of all clothing by nine months would reduce the annual carbon, water and waste footprints of clothing by 15-30%.
New Rules
Making apparel more durable not only enhances its value, but is now essential in order to meet new regulations in the European Union. Similar regulations are likely to be enacted in other markets as well in the coming years.
