Tariffs: Is This Manufacturing’s Ultimate Stress Test?

Who will really pay the price of more tariffs?

With most of the cost burden likely to be passed up stream, suppliers will be the real victims of tariff increases.

While no one knows exactly what might be the next phase of potential tariffs on U.S. imports, brands are preparing themselves in order to mitigate any impact.

For several years supply chains have been reconfigured to reduce brands over reliance on any one country.   That will continue to provide a strong foundation in the advent of tariff increases – assuming that tariffs are not applied to all exporting nations.  

The unpredictability of tariffs is making it difficult for fashion and apparel companies to plan. 

While lower freight rates may provide some relief, they are not expected to fully offset the increased costs associated with the new and proposed tariffs. Companies will likely need to employ a range of strategies, including diversifying sourcing, optimizing supply chains, and potentially adjusting pricing, to manage the impact of these tariffs.
