Crystal Group Highlights Sustainability Achievements

Crystal International Group Limited (Hong Kong) has published the thirteenth Sustainability Report that summarises the positive steps and efforts made in 2021, and illustrates how we spearheaded sustainability in the industry to move further by committing net zero emissions in 2050 and spreading care to our employees and community amidst the pandemic.

 The Report covers Crystal International’s sustainability vision, strategies, key initiatives, achievements, and performance in 2021. It complies with the new Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) disclosure requirements of Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) as well as with reference to the GRI Standards.

Key Highlights of the Report

Progress in 2021 of Third Global 5-Year Sustainability Targets (2018 – 2022):

  • Reduced 52% freshwater intensity vs 2017 base year (target achieved)
  • Reduced 9% carbon intensity vs 2017 base year
  • 2.9 million trees planted since 2007
  • Empowered over 49,500 women through CARE programme (target achieved)
  • 55,800 volunteering hours (target achieved)

Net Zero 2050 Vision and Environmental Highlights:

  • Committed to net zero emissions by 2050 with interim target of 35% of absolute carbon reduction by 2030, in line with science-based target approach.
  • Expanded rooftop solar PV in two Vietnam factories to generate more than 3,800 MWh of electricity annually
  • Completed the Climate Change disclosure on CDP with a score of B-, above the industry average
  • Conducted a climate-related risk analysis according to the guidelines of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)
  • Recycled 2,617,533 m3 of water, equivalent of drinking water for ~3,500,000 people per year
  • Advanced sustainable and circular product development
    • Second Life – closed-loop denim, saving 70% water consumption and 10% carbon emissions
    • Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Jeans Redesign project
  • Progressed greener chemistries, 70% ZDHC MRSL conformance chemicals in knits factories in Vietnam, China and Bangladesh

Social Highlights:

  • Training: Provided 49 hours of training to each employee, totalling 5,261,670 hours
  • Widened online training, including digital P.A.C.E (500 employees graduated from the online course) and Harvard Business School leadership courses
  • Gender equality: Trained close to 30,000 employees on anti-sexual harassment
  • Support for communities: Contributed ~US$407,000 and over 32,000 man-hours
  • Women healthcare campaign: Donated 16,000 pieces of high-quality lingerie and provided women’s health care knowledge to the underprivileged women in China
  • Safeguarded employees and supported communities against COVID-19
    • Implementing vaccination programmes, nearly 100% of employees are vaccinated
    • Donated ~US$450,000 to provincial and national vaccine funds in Vietnam
    • Supported governments in establishing treatment facilities
    • Made financial and in-kind contributions to employees, communities and local governments to fight the pandemic
