Smart fabrics incorporate technological elements enabling communication with smartphones, changes in color or temperature, and even health monitoring systems.  These advanced materials enhance garment functionality by interacting with the environment and the wearer’s biological systems.  This is achieved by having conductive fibers, miniature sensors, or circuits integrated within the fabric.  

While smart fabrics are not new, their role in wearable technology has been enhanced by new developments that give them greater functionality.
