5 Yarn and Fiber Developments that are Smart & Sustainable
Taiwan’s mills are well known for their groundbreaking technical developments. They continue to meet the dual challenge of creating yarns, fibers and fabrics that are packed with performance properties - and are also sustainable. Here are five developments that could be the key to differentiating your next collection, while also checking the box on sustainability.

Download PDF Login to read about these Top PRODUCT INNOVATIONS & DEVELOPMENTS.
Recycled Abrasion Resistant Yarn
DuraXtend Eco from Acelon is a recycled nylon abrasion resistant yarn which breaks down more slowly and can help textiles reduce weight loss after frequent use. DuraXtend is embedded with a technical porous structure, that helps elastic recovery, can withstand distortion and adds abrasion resistance ability to textiles. This makes apparel more durable - even in extreme conditions. Under the same wearing test cycles, textiles made with DuraXtend offered an extra 30-50% resistance to fabric weight loss.
Upcyled Oyster Shells + Recycled PET
Seawool & Smawarm from Creative Tech features raw materials derived from upcycled oyster shells and recycled PET bottles, that are fuses with the latest nano technology to create fibers containing UV protection, low thermal conductivity, far infrared and anti-order functions, which surpass wool and down in all aspects.
Industrial Waste Gas to Polyester
TopGreen Bio3-PET from Fenc utilizes LanzaTech CCU technology that transforms industrial waste gas into low carbon ethylene glycol (EG), which then turns into brand new polyester. TopGreen rTEX Spun Yarn transforms the textile waste from the factory floors into a sustainable 100% recycled polyester and 100% recycled cotton yarns without any chemical treatment. TopGreen rTEX Filament is essentially a fabric made from recycled polyester filament. The fabric scraps and used clothes go through a process of sorting, shredding, melting, pelletizing and spinning. This solution has been adopted by several international brands and will be launched in sportswear in 2023.

TopGreen Bio3-Pet from FENC and DuraXtend Eco from Acelon

Colored Nylon
NüPalette from Honmyue is a 100% solution dyed high tenacity nylon yarn. Inspired by the CMYK printers palette, this high-strength nylon yarn, with saturated color and high color fastness, can be woven into fabrics of many colors and achieve water-saving, energy-saving, carbon reduction and durability.
Low Impact Technology for Polyester
L.I.T. from Kingwhale is low impact technology that is praised for its waste reduction and efficiency. The innovative yarn technology modifies the molecular structure of polyester. L.I.T. yarn can be dyed at lower temperatures and can shorten the dying process. Accordingly, the dyeing process for these modified fibers requires 60% less water for dye preservation, 15% less dyestuffs to achieve color, and 22% less electricity for heating and cooling. Kingwhale has joined the RE100 global initiative, pledging to 100% renewable electricity by 2040, and becoming the first textile mill in Asia-Pacific to do so.
