US Retail Sales Fell 8.7% in March

U.S. retail sales fell  3.1% in March, excluding autos and gas.

Including autos and gas, sales fell 8.7% in the month, the worst decline since 1992.

Sales at clothing and accessories stores plunged 50.5% in March, according to a CNN report.

Sales at furniture and home furnishing stores declined 26.8%.

Sales at sporting goods stores fell 23.3% and electronics and appliance sales declined 15.1%.

Not surprisingly, grocery store sales surged 26.7% in March.

Sales at non-store retailers, including e-commerce sites like Amazon, increased 3.1%.
