Just as U.S. retailers were beginning to reopen, riots in many cities across the nation forced them to close again.
People protesting the murder of George Floyd often turned violent, vandalizing stores and forcing many others to remain closed to protect their employees and their property.
Six days on, protesters are still setting buildings on fires, smashing windows, looting shops, and causing other destructruction to property.
For retailers and restaurants that barely survived the COVID-19 pandemic, the protests could be fatal, said the Wall Street Journal.
Across the U.S. 25 cities in 16 states have imposed curfews to try and control damage from the riots.
Closed Again
Target, which is headquartered in Minneapolis where the murder took place, has closed more than 175 stores, according to a CNN report.
Walmart has closed hundreds of stores, according to an Associate Press report.
Apple has closed the majority of its stores to protect the safety of its employees, according to various sources.
CVS and Whole Foods have also reported either closing stores or limiting store hours in the face of the protests.
Countless other smaller chains and individual stores remained closed as well.
