Fears that slow summer spending would bleed into Autumn have been put to rest

After slowing down in August, retail sales in the US, UK and several EU countries reversed course in September.

The gains were small – a mere 0.3% in the UK – it has helped to put off fears that consumers were set on cutting spending.
