Int’l Human Rights Groups Demand that Brands Cease Using Xinjiang Cotton

A coalition of over 190 human rights groups have teamed up to demand that international apparel brands stop using cotton or yarn sourced from China’s Xinjiang region, according to a New York Times article.

Continued persecution of China’s ethnic minorities has caused more organizations to push for change.

For years there have been reports of forced labor and other abuses of the Uighur and other ethnic minorities.

However human rights groups said that brands have simply ignored this.

This new collaborative effort is aimed at shaming brands into to making more responsible sourcing decisions.
