China saw a rise in domestic tourism during the Labor Day (May 1) holiday. It’s been interpreted as a sign that the economy is on steady path to recovery.
As of May 5, an estimated 115 million trips had been taken, generating about $6.7 million in revenue for tour operators, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
To encourage tourism, this year the government extended the Labor Day holiday to five days – from May 1-5.
At this time, about 70 percent of hotels and tourists attractions have reopened – with health precautions in place.
