AI is Coming, But Not Necessarily for Your Job

Mention AI and the first thing most working people think of is ‘job loss’.  

While AI is a powerful technology, current developers see it as an enhancement rather than a replacement for human workers.

Just like computers made a lot of work faster, easier and less costly, AI is not necessarily a ‘job killer’.

While the use cases for AI will vary according to industry and job functions,  the core skills that one needs to competently work with AI are the same.  Just like learning to use a computer or learning how to use email and the internet became a standard part of everyone’s basic skill set, over time AI will also become integrated into at least some aspects of many people’s day-to-day job functions.

One of gen AI’s strengths is that it can help nearly everyone with their jobs. This is also one of the technology’s greatest challenges. McKinsey estimates that gen AI and other technologies have the potential to automate work activities that absorb up to 70% of employees’ time today.
