The EU is looking to take serious action against the ongoing surge in small parcels entering the region duty-free – and often not complying with EU standards.
The de minimis rule allows small parcels to enter member nations without duty or customs inspection.
For the EU, the value threshold is €150. Like many nations around the world, EU governments are under more pressure from domestic industries to slow – or even stop – the flow of goods that are typically being sold at prices that undercut local products.
Most of the uproar over this long standing rule centers around Chinese e-commerce platforms like Shein and Temu that have taken the market by storm – which local businesses feel are presenting unfair competition.
